Congratulations to you all! School grades are out, and we have once again received an "A." Thanks to all of the wonderful Ammons students, for their hard work! Have a great summer!
To All My Wonderful Ammons Students
If you're having trouble with integers, here's some help:
Adding and Subtracting Integers:
When you have two signs next to each other (with no numbers in between) Rewrite the expression to simplify it:
+ + = rewrite the problem with + Ex: 3 + ( + 10 ) becomes 3 + 10
+ - = rewrite the problem with - Ex: 12 + ( - 9 ) becomes 12 - 9
- + = rewrite the problem with - Ex: 5 - ( + 7 ) becomes 5 - 7
- - = rewrite the problem with + Ex: 26 - ( - 8 ) becomes 26 + 8
After you rewrite the expression, follow these rules:
Same Sign = Add them together and keep the sign.
Ex: 5 + 8 = + 13
- 14 + ( - 20 ) becomes - 14 - 20 = - 34
Different Sign = Find the difference (subtract) and keep the sign of the bigger number.
Ex: 47 + ( - 18 ) becomes 47 - 18 = 29
- 35 - ( - 23) becomes - 35 + 23 = - 12
Multiplying and Dividing Integers:
Follow these simple rules:
Same Sign = The answer is always positive (+)
Ex: 5 x 3 = + 15
-7 x ( - 9 ) = + 63
24 / 6 = + 4
- 45 / - 9 = + 5
Different Sign = the answer is always negative (-)
Ex: 2 x ( - 8 ) = - 16
- 10 x ( + 3 ) = - 30
56 / - 7 = - 8
- 72 / 8 = - 9

Dear Parents,
The following is a list of the materials your child is expected to have for mathematics on a daily basis. Other materials might be requested as the school year develops.
* A folder with pockets and prongs
* A large composition book (usually black and white cover)
* ** Students are required to maintain a well organized mathematics composition notebook.
* MANY #2 pencils (every day)
* Minimum two red or green pens for checking work (every day)
* 1 Ream of white multipurpose paper
* Wide-ruled loose-leaf paper (lots of it)
* Eraser
* Graph paper
* Protractor
* Ruler
* Colored Pencils
* Pencil Sharpener
* Pencil box or pouch
* A four-function calculator (every day)
Notebooks and all other materials must be brought to every class. Failure to do so may result in poor participation and effort grades. Thank you for all of your support and consideration. Together, we can make this a great year for your child. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. My extension is 4601, and my email address is sedanor@dadeschools.net. Please understand that I teach a full schedule each day, so I may not be able to respond to your concerns immediately – but I promise I will respond.
Sincerely,

Class Rules, Rewards and Consequences
Simple Statement of Conduct: The classroom is a place of learning and all students are expected to be fully engaged in learning at all times while exhibiting respect and care for the opportunity for all students to learn.
Rewards:
* School Supplies or Treats
* Certificates
* Teacher approval to participate in team activities
* Teacher consent to attend special field trips
Consequences:
* First Infraction: Warning (verbal reprimand/GradeBook notation)
* Second Infraction: Parent phone call and/or detention
* Third Infraction: Parent Conference
* Fourth Infraction: Referred to an Administrator for disciplinary action
Detentions: are served before or after school at the teacher’s convenience. When a detention is issued, it must be served. Parents must make all necessary transportation arrangements prior to the date. Failure to serve can result in disciplinary action by an administrator.
Class Procedures and Policies
Attendance: In the event of an absence, it is the student’s responsibility to make up all missed assignments. Students must check for missed assignments as soon as they return to school. Failure to make up an assignment will result in a zero.
Homelearning: The goal of homelearning is to provide the student with the opportunity to strengthen a skill or concept learned in class, or prepare the student for the next lesson. Homelearning will only be accepted the day it is due (except in the case of an excused absence.) Homelearning will be checked daily and graded at the teacher’s discretion.
Grading: Evaluation will be based on homelearning, class work, pop-quizzes, tests, class participation, projects, etc. It is the student’s responsibility to seek assistance if they do not understand the material taught in class. Students can attend the Coaching and Enrichment Program after school for tutoring and homework help. I am available to assist students on Wednesday mornings from 8:25 – 8:50, and any other morning that I do not have any meetings or conferences to attend.
Grading Scale:
A 90-100 - 3.50-4.00
B 80-89 - 2.50-3.49
C 70-79 - 1.50-2.49
D 60-69 - 1.00-1.49
F 00-59 - 0.00-0.99
